Profile
Having studied BSc Psychology in the Community, and MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice in the early 1990s, I served for twenty years in HM Prison Service, as a Forensic Psychologist. My main focus was supporting people to refrain from offending behaviour, empowering them to improve their lives.
I have worked with people of all ages, convicted of a multitude of offences. I have given evidence to parole hearings, been on Multi-Agency Panels about the nature of risk, and risk management planning. I have been in Senior Prison Leadership Teams, and worked as a Negotiation Advisor across the Midlands.
Supervision
My MSc Applied Forensic Psychology dissertation evaluated a group Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy intervention designed to help alleviate depression and suicidal ideation in Young People in prison, aged 18-21, to aid with the Suicide Prevention Strategy of the prison.
My Doctorate research focused on Child Sexual Exploitation by Groups, examining this phenomenon from the point of view of those committing the offences, to ascertain how and why it happened. The aim here was to empower Prison Managers and Intervention Services to develop interventions and management strategies for this under-researched population.
