Profile
Steve Lloyds interests stem from his background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, along with his time completing his PhD from Loughborough University which involved assessing the feasibility of deploying sensor payloads in marine environments from Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). Underwater acoustics, RPAS, field campaigns, embedded platforms, integration of systems, programming, analog and digital signal processing are all areas in which Steve has expertise.
Steve Lloyd currently leads the drone lab, based at Space Park Leicester, which has been/is involved in the deployment of real time machine learning models on-board drones/satellite systems, distributed computing using containers for satellite applications, Multi-Angle Polarimeter (MAP) aircraft campaign (electrical/Electronic and embedded system software development) and CO2Sat, among others.
Research
I am currently a post-doctoral researcher in Earth Observation and have/am conducting research in the following areas:
- Algorithm implementation to Machine learning lead and RPAS pilot on Rapid information extraction for Environmental remote sensing on board spacecraft through Application of Light Machine Learning (ML) models project.
- Drone laboratory lead at Space Park Leicester with GVC & A2 CofC licences.
- Several field trials conducted including drone deployments in Uganda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Maldives & the UK.
- Previous interim project manager on UK Bilateral mission .
- Multi-angle Polarimeter demonstrator software, control and UoL electrical systems integration lead.
- Distributed computing expertise using docker and the Common Workflow Language (CWL) for applications on-board satellite systems.
